The question...

How deafening is this silence,
when I am straining my ears
to hear the words you will not,
or cannot
speak.

Who has a hold on your tongue...on your heart?

What emptiness surrounds me
as I long for the warmth of your voice
the light of your eyes
the solidity of your hand on my skin

Where are those precious whispers
of love and laughter
weaving fantasy and distant reality
into a solitary hope?

When did you stop believing in our dreams?

Why is it so difficult for you
to give such a tiny piece of yourself to me
even knowing I would treasure it,
until I am but ashes on the pyre?

Unexpected

Nothing can touch
this ache inside my soul,
and my heart burns
from swallowing too many lies.

You make me feel naked
in a crowded room
Chilled from the wretched air
and the look in your eyes.

Your disregard so unintentional it stings...

Inflict

Too often I stay silent
and let the words rip open
barely healed wounds
and my heart needs to bleed on the page

This damage I do to myself
and you have no blame
even when you swear
there are bloodstains on your hands

I choose to bleed
I choose to remember
I choose to be silent
I choose the pain over letting you go.

ache

I miss you tonight. The words that come so easily when I think of you are stuck in my chest, burning to be let out. But the keyboard is silent, and the room seems too warm to breathe. And I do not know which is worse; the weight of it all pressing down on me, or knowing that you do not feel a thing...

Today I sent you a letter
I wrote for hours
Littered the floor with little paper balls
Trying to get the words just right.
I found a stamp in the back of the kitchen drawer
took an envelope from the stack of bills
I folded the pages as neatly as I could
and closed the flap. With a prayer.
With a kiss.
I know you'll never read it. And if you did,
it wouldnt make much sense. Because you never knew.
I never told you. And now its far too late.
But I wrote you a letter.
And I will leave the rest to fate.

Fragment

I'm not the girl you'll think about
when you remember loves long past
Not the one you wish you held
Not the dream you want to last

I am just a soft, warm touch
across your naked skin
a sudden smile, an errant sigh
or laughter on a whim

You won't remember me at all
You'll soon forget my name
but a piece of me will be in you
an ember of a flame

Imperfect

In a perfect world
it wouldn't matter
these superficial flaws
in skin and thought.
the lies of perception
and insecurity

Only my hand
on your face
The softness of your lips
pressed into mine
The warmth of your skin
as you sleep by my side

Only the way
your heart races
the ache in my chest
when you smile
the need to be
tangled together

In a perfect world
where you are mine
and time has no hold
it wouldnt matter
that perfection
can only be found
in each other's eyes.

Fairytale

You're a book I read
and never wanted it to end.
But I was just acting the words out loud
and reading myself into your life.
I can't change the ending
you have already written.
You cant erase an already finished page.
All I can do now is put the book
back on the shelf and remember
how the story touched me.
and maybe one day Ill get to read
that story again.

Tangled

There was a single moment
when everything was perfect;
Your breath against my skin
The warmth and weight of you pressing into me.
You were everything, and I was yours.
Time was banished and only we existed.

It was a single, perfect moment.
And I will live forever inside it.

Vicious Love

go ahead
rip it out
watch it beat in your hands
let the dreams drip through your fingers like blood
drop it,
stomp it
watch it shatter like glass
grind the splintered shards into the mud

hollowed out
and poisoned
no promise left to keep
a monster lurks within the damaged shell
soulless.
heartless.
crying tears of bitter faith
as it leads you slowly down the paths of hell
